Armstrong High 2011-2014

Our organization provided grant-funded restorative justice services at Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia from 2011 to 2014. This included over 120 circles to more than 260 students, staff and family members, and 6 students were trained in circle facilitation. Over 80% of the circles ended in an agreement, as shown in this graph:

Screen Shot 2015-06-25 at 3.33.04 PMDuring the program, Incidents of in-school and out-of-school suspensions continuously decreased, with in-school suspensions among the target population decreasing almost 90% between 2011 and 2013. A June 2013 assessment of the Armstrong program reported: “The vast majority of students and 100% of staff and administrators interviewed had an overall positive view of the program and saw it as relevant and useful for addressing conflict at school.”
